I'm a director trying to rebalance activities for a direct report in a managerial role who is currently experiencing burnout and overwhelmed. Given past performance, I think if I can clear some space to reduce the load in the short term (6mo), he'll be able to reset, but he has very few things that aren't essential to the position. I'm not sure what I can take on our pause without calling attention from my superiors. Our employer would prefer for someone to take FMLA and then come back and jump into the full load again, but for retention and work load, I'd prefer to shift work around to give him room to breathe (which is what the employee is asking for). Anyone dealt with something like this? Any suggestions on what to transition from a manager to a director without negatively impacting how his team or my superiors view him?
