Hold an offer?

Hold an offer?

I have an offer from a company for a job similar to what I have done in the past. I had an onsite interview a few days earlier with another company that I thought went really well for a job that is more focused on my interests. The offer was for less base salary than I was expecting. I countered on pay and vacation, but they only gave me a bump on vacation. I am debating whether to take this job over the weekend and the past 3 days. How long can I wait to see if this other company will make an offer?

Don't push it beyond a week tops without engaging on some level. Right now you're signaling you are not committed so I would make up your mind by Friday. Generally their is a expiration date on your written offer so refer to that first. The other company is on the fence. They will take as long as they take or maybe not at all. Use tomorrow to take their temperature to see if they are interested. It generally takes more than a good interview for you to lock down an offer.

Since it has been a few days since the job interview with the job that you are interested in, I would follow up and inquire if they have made their decision and if you are still being considered as a candidate. If so, I would advise to express your interest and go from there with the conversation. That conversation should be helpful to decide which opportunity is truly meant for you and available to you.

When you were extended the offer, you should have been given a date by which to respond. If you need more time, reach out to the recruiter, HR person or whoever it was that extended the offer and ask for more time. If you continue to sit on it without contact with them, they may move on figuring you are ghosting them.

Maybe make the other company aware you have an offer but that their opportunity is your top pick. That may budge them into next steps or at least a status update.

Don't accept the lower base job out desperation. You could counter them again and ask about a salary review after 6 months based on hitting key performance metrics or onboarding support.

I ended up taking the offer and I'm glad I did because I fit in really well here.
