I’ve been working as a contractor for a few months in a role I truly enjoy. My experience with my manager, however, has been mixed. While I can work with her, certain aspects of her management style have been challenging. She schedules meetings with me at the last minute, without regard for my time, and sometimes cancels planned meetings because she’s tied up on other calls. She tells me she is frequently busy, yet makes time when meeting with executives, which gives me the impression that my time is less valued. She constantly tells me how she works through the morning and night.

Additionally, I’ve noticed that she can become a stress case and doesn’t always handle feedback well. There’s also a tendency toward gossip, which I find unprofessional in a workplace setting.

I try not to get discouraged because I just tell myself that I’m still doing something that I enjoy and getting paid for it. :)

I welcome any thoughts, tips, and advice. Thanks!

I would try to talk to her about all of this stuff. Be firm on your boundaries- don't let her put meetings on your calendar at the last minute, or at the end of your workday without notice. Respond with, sorry, I'm not available in 20 minutes but I could be available today at 3 or tomorrow at 10. Explain to her that you feel you are not getting properly supervised because she often cancels and spends more time with upper-level management than the person providing the service. She may well feel like there will be fewer consequences for her if she bails or is late for meetings with you, but could get in trouble if she acts that way with her own bosses. Keep hitting her with the boundary for gossip too- "sorry, I really need to focus on x," or "I'm uncomfortable with talking about person Y that way."

I really liked your insights on keeping walls smooth and flawless! I recently checked out https://drywallrepairsantamaria.com, and they’ve got some great ideas on efficient drywall repair too. It is amazing how much a clean wall can refresh a whole space. Fixing cracks and holes might seem small, but it makes a big difference in how cozy and polished your home feels
