I just wanted to share a small personal update.

I just wanted to share a small personal update.

After spending a long time at home, I started a new job about four months ago. It hasn’t been easy adjusting back to a routine, learning new things, and rebuilding confidence — but I’m still here, still showing up, and that feels like progress.

I’m not really looking for advice or anything specific. I just wanted to share this moment with the community, because sometimes even small steps deserve to be acknowledged.

Thanks for reading

Good for you! I stayed home for 17 years. Once my children were in High School, I returned to the work force. A lot had changed and the tech was different so I became a receptionist. A friendly demeanor and willingness to try anything asked of me evolved into a new career. I worked another 15 years. I resigned this past Christmas. I'm not fully committed to being "retired" but also do not want to work 60 hours a week, I am working on clearing an estate by selling on ebay and Marketplace. I love the shorter hours and spending time with my remaining parent. It's a new world out there, good luck and best wishes for a career you love.

That is great! I am trying to re enter the workplace after a long time of being a SAHM, breast cancer and caring for my husband who had a transplant. I feel all the feels you are too! Little steps lead to big steps. Best wishes to you!!

Keep going, I believe you can do it too!

You’re doing great! Congratulate yourself every day that you kept moving forward even if it is one step at a time. One day becomes one week, then a month, then a year, etc. Opportunities will arise. Yay for you!

    Way to go!

You're fortunate. One day at a time.

It's harder than most people realize to re-join the workforce after an extended time at home. So many new things to learn. Younger colleagues that seem to know everything that you don't.

But you CAN do this! A positive attitude goes a long way! When you're asked to do something you've never done, respond positively. Be teachable and willing to take on new tasks and always be learning. I was in your same situation not too many years ago. I worked hard and learned lots of new things and succeeded! I am now 63 years old, still in the workforce, still learning new things everyday, and am a valuable team player in my industry. YOU GOT THIS!

Thank you, everyone. Things are still difficult, and sometimes really bad, but I’ve taken a new step forward. I just want to share a bit of positivity with you all, a little positivity to make life a bit brighter, right?

Try to find ways to address racial profiling and selective perspectives using a very proactive approach. Tough job but don't quit.

This comment is unkind and unhelpful. Additionally, the "participation trophy" argument is usually made by the generation who gave participation trophies. The children did not give them to themselves, and yet it is used as a condescending way to make a jab at younger people. Maybe if you don't want to uplift people you should get off this site.

Or, instead of dismissing folks for desiring validation, we could just… get better at validating people. It feels good. It takes little effort. It can have big payoffs.
