Suggestions for introductory paragraph.

Suggestions for introductory paragraph.

I am starting a new position in three days, and I have been asked by my new supervisor to provide her with a "short paragraph to introduce myself in an email to the division." I have never been asked to provide this before and I'm hoping that the community has some suggestions. If anyone would like to provide a template, that would be perfect. Thank you everyone!!

    I suggest making yourself seem approachable. Most everyone else writes business jargony things, but who remembers that?

    Start with 1-2 into sentences that fit the tone of your company (Hello, I'm X starting in Y position. I've been in this kind of position since xxxx (or for x number of years). I'm super excited to me you and join the team.

    One fun thing you don't yet know about me is: {give 1-2 examples that aren't too personal but help people connect with you}

    Pick example:

    I like to bake square pizza

    I have # dogs/cats/pets

    I have traveled to X last year

    I grew up in X

    I have

    i know you haven’t started yet but any idea what the culture is like? If it’s more informal you could make it more personal (likes/dislikes, funny story etc.) or if it’s more formal you could include previous accomplishments or your experience in the field.

    Short paragraph usually means along the lines of what you'd see in a conference agenda. Name, new role, background - degrees, industry certifications, years in the field, maybe titles of previous roles if they show a career trajectory.

    I'm Susan Jones and I earned my BA in accounting (from recognizable school if applicable - feel free to leave the name out if it's religious, for-profit, regional, or whatever else you don't want publicized) in 2004 and MBA in 2006. Completed my CPA in 2007 and took my first role in current field as a fiscal technician in 2009 at small company and worked my way up to revenue director by 2021. I'm excited to bring my experience to the VP of Finance position at new company and look forward to meeting with many of you over the next few weeks.

    Ask chat gpt! Copy and paste your resume and then ask it to generate a short introductory paragraph.

    AI is great for this! You could put a few key phrases - basic professional bio stuff (plus a fun fact about you you don’t mind sharing) and ask it to write a short bio. Also, if you have one on your LI profile, use that.

    Give a quick overview of your background, education and any certs you have. List some fun facts about yourself and any hobbies of interest. Then add how you are looking forward to starting your new role and joining the team soon. That’s it in a nutshell. Don’t overthink it.

    No , just NO .. do not ASK for stuff while it’s your job to do what is asked ,, a very simple task

    Also recommend adding in a bullet on your preferred communication like for quick questions I fan of Teams chat and am best reached by email or adding in you typical working hours or any other “personalized” relevant work info that helps you to set boundaries as well as set you up for success (this is in addition to the fun facts and credential stuff) but should be conveyed in a soft touch manner.
