How long to wait to follow up a second time?

How long to wait to follow up a second time? After the interview, I sent a thank you note with a pitch regarding why I would be a good fit based on our conversation.

Surprisingly, I heard back and that I would be contacted regarding the next steps. It's been two weeks and radio silence. Am I being ghosted, should I follow up and going forward, how long it too long to hear back?

I applied for this role as the JD said they needed someone right away and I need a job. I'm excited about the role but feel that if they are looking to hire away, wouldn't they be moving faster? I'd appreciate your help as I don't want to bug him but also don't want to lose out in a job I would enjoy.

Second situation: I applied for a role in February and the interview went well but I was told the company was already extending an offer that week during my meeting. The same role was posted over the weekend.

I reached out to the interviewer and expressed interest. Should I apply on the site even though I reached out to HR? I don't want to run the risk being unable to apply if I don' hear back from her. Thank you!

You should definitely apply. Anything could have happened.

As for the ghosting on the role you applied to, I would reach out every few days until they either don't reach out immediately or they go silent for the next could of weeks.

Thank you and I'll apply this afternoon. I appreciated your advice and followed up with other opportunity this afternoon!

Thank you, Tahlora. I followed up this after based on your recommendation. I didn't want to bother him but I don't want to let this opportunity slip away...

I'll apply for the other role this afternoon. I l appreciated your advice!

"Immediately" is a term subject to interpretation. I would personally interpret that as "this week," while some might think that means "extend an offer within the month."

i've been in your situation. I hate to say it, but when they DO NOT follow up as they say they will, it's usually a bad sign. And, I've discovered that this time of year is also tough: companies are looking at their budgets to finish this calendar year and will often opt to "hold off on hiring until January". On the other hand, you might get that call or email this week! You have NOTHING to lose, and everything to gain, by reaching out today or tomorrow with a gentle follow up. I would also re apply for that other job (#2 situation). When you're needing a job, it's easy to get timid (you don't want to be rejected)- Move on with confidence and speak for yourself. Let us know if you hear anything this week!

    Agree with Tahlora's response.

Also, I would call the HR talent acquisition rep to inquire.
