My question is, why are you trying to throw yourself on a grenade? Has it been determined that your company will be issuing a full refund? If so, was it your decision? If it wasn't, then I don't know why you're so concerned about what happens. Is the refund pulled from your commission or something? Even if it is, I would be mindful of the manner in which 'step up' to a client you want to do business with again in the future. Having a clean-up conversation, sure. Stepping up? Sounds like a good way to lose future business.
