Got that job offer!

Got that job offer!

I just accepted a job offer. Wanted to share my experience with the group. It was not quick as there are not many "real" opportunities on the market, so direct applications did not work. I had few interviews through headhunters who reached out, but they did not result in offers. Initial networking did not work very well - probably because I was just reaching out in general, but without any specific positions in mind. Finally, I lucked out - a good match came along and I knew someone who referred me. So - for everyone - do not despair. Reach out to everyone you know. Schedule lunches, meetings, chats. But it will take time unless you are lucky. It took me about 8 months, but I also was somewhat selective. I really liked the fact that I have kept in touch with many people over the years. It paid off. Good luck to everyone!

I've also found my network has been a lifesaver. I remained active in LinkedIn while employed on my most recent job. I wrote occassional posts in my field based on real-world issues I ran into and solutions.

I wound up laid off a year after getting the job and the job market was incredibly competitive. Jobs in my field would have over 100 applicants in less than an hour after being posted in LinkedIn. I wound up paying for the premier level so I could directly message recriters not in my network.

I reached out to contacts for referrals, had my references on LinkedIn write me recommendations that I could feature on my profile. I watched YouTube vidoes on how to make the most out of LinkedIn.

I posted updates on my ongoing training in current technologies. I joined more groups and began engaging in conversations in my field.

Eventually, recruiters were finding me as well as a direct contact who knew of an internal position opening up in his department. I actually wound up with multipe job offers for the first time in my career.

Thank you for sharing. Inspiring! We need to get out of our comfort zone when we need to find work. We need to put ourselves out there all the time. We are our own CEOs.

That's what LinkedIn is for. Not sure what your field is, but mine has tons of free events either in person or virtual. You can either sulk or make the effort to get engaged.

    Hey everyone,

I gave an interview around 45 days back at HCL tech and got a mail and call from HR stating that I have cleared and they started the process to release the offer letter. But till now I haven’t got the offer letter. I had called them several times sometimes they say that they are still getting confirmations from various levels, sometimes they have issues regarding SR and for once I have got a welcome letter also but offer release process again got interrupted due to some reasons. Though HR is in constant touch with me and I have resigned from my current organisation.

Are there chances of these type of issues while releasing the offer letter.

Hope to get a good feedback and help

Wow, way to be negative. Sometimes you do need to spend money to make money, especially in a tough job market. And yes, people do fall out of touch, but if you hold up your end of the communication it's unlikely; at the very least you find out who you can count on, who your friends really are.

    Happy for you! Good luck!

Awesome post! It's also good to remind everyone that networking and referrals work both ways. Remember to make those referrals for your network whenever possible. We need each other during these tough times.

I love this. I’ve posted here a few times about how networking has led to most of my work for over 30 years now.

ironically the two jobs that I got before then were though the job book at my college’s job center and the other through a a classified ad in the Sunday paper.

But yes I am all in for networking !

I should add that I was at a dinner party and another guest mentioned that she was out of work. I was able to refer her to our city’s job placement service as well as a couple of job hunting websites.

That's very motivational. One question, do the people who are busy with their current job, will be interested to spent time with you. Sometimes they don't even have time to respond or chat. All the best!

Yes, they are busy, but even a short chat allows you to keep in touch. It is much less awkward to ask them for help later.
