I need help figuring out what I can do and where to get a job making good money as I can’t get any interviews . I’m currently a patient care technician, I have a masters degree, I’ll be 60 in November and I still don’t feel like I know what to do or that people will hire me.

I love it when people just walk in when they know I am hiring. It shows initiative and drive, in my opinion.

Be sure to lead with your talents and abilities when doing your search. Securing a great salary is important but if the money lands you in a position that you're under or overqualified for, you'll end up frustrated. I know because I've been where you are.

Have you looked at nursing homes, assisted living facilities as well? Do you have an updated resume? If you are submitting it but not getting interviews, have a trusted friend take a look and see if they see anything that stands out. You mentioned your age so I'm not sure if you are feeling like no one will hire you because you are older? I don't want to assume that. I'm 59 and my resume does not have my year of graduation. I've been in my role for 13 years and previous to that I was in recruiting, so I have the years of my recruitment, and companies listed. You are in a very attractive business and there are lots of jobs in healthcare. Not sure what environment you want to work, but nurses are in demand and so are those in your line of work. I know how much you do for patients and they are so needed. Don't worry about your age, my friend is a nurse and she's 61. Hang in there, and apply and see if you get interviews. Keep us posted!

It might be a good idea to take a visit to the career services offices at the school where you got your masters degree. Often those office assist alum and could be a great resource for helping you to figure some things out.

Don't let your age concern you. You have skills. Start to make friends in the industry. Before you know it, you will know people in several companies/workplaces. Sign up on employers' websites so that you receive email notifications when new jobs are posted. Join industry organizations, either online or in person. Get to know the people in your industry and community if you don't already . And good luck!

Also, you may want to put your resume on job boards and see if recruiters will find you. When I did that, it resulted in three interviews, the third of which resulted in a 14-month contract, which lasted through 5-6 layoffs of client company employees. BTW, when i did this, I was 72, so age is not a detriment if you have the skills.

If you are stuck on your resume, try listening to videos by Andy LaCivita or Ken Coleman. They have a lot of good ideas and can steer you in the right direction to make the most of your background.
