To all freelancers and consultants-how do you handle this?

I currently have a client who I've been working with who is asking me to be onsite sometimes during the week. I have been fully remote for 15 years, but do travel for meetings, etc. It will take me about 1 hour and 15 minutes each way to get to the office. Do you bill for travel time? Please advise. Thank you!!!

    Suggest you bill for your time including travel time. This covers your car or travel expenses and gas. Like .54 a mile as that is a common average where I work but look at other industries and their average mileage reimbursements. Then pop that invoice over and he may rethink asking you in the office each week. Nothing is free and your travel isn’t either. That drive time takes you away from other clients.

    My contracts vary for the client. Generally yes, but I may increase the cost of my service and include xx amount of on-site visits per month, or something like that. I find it most effective to offer clients a variety of options and find a solution that works for both parties.

    Yes, definitely. Perhaps not directly but do add it in depending upon how your contract with them is written. If this becomes an issue build it into your next contract. Keep in mind if you are billing time and materials gas and time factor in.
