Spending time tailoring my resume for a few job submissions is serving me better than applying for a lot of roles. While I haven't found a job yet, I wanted to share my small wins.
My initial approach was to send as many out as I could in order to generate response and find a job quickly. That approach didn't work and I didn't even receive rejections. I switched my approach to send a targeted resume per application.
Originally I created resumes for marketing, PR and other industries and used for that sector with minor tweaks. While that might work for some people, if you have a diverse career trajectory, you need to connect the dotes and tell your story.
Although it takes longer per application, I'm noticing more response and even generated a few interviews. While I know this is a long-term instead of short term game, I wanted to share my story in case it helps others to try a different approach. Good luck everyone facing this difficult job market!
