You are likely overqualified if every box is checked (or exceeded). Very few applicants can check off "all the boxes" and companies know that when they post it. Companies are reluctant to hire people who over-qualify for jobs because they will stay long enough to find a better job or expect too much money. Check your resume to make sure it highlights those positions that are requirements on the JD and most of your bullet points show an amount of how well or what you did. (For example: Supervised 5-10 people at [position requirement] for a management position or brought in $[dollar amount] of revenue in the past 12 months for a sales job).

Just remember, you were probably one of 300 applicants. It likely has nothing to do with your age, but I'm in my mid 50's and have been hired at tech companies which are supposed to avoid hiring people like me (which hasn't been my experience at all).

Thank you for this. Social media and my generation lead me to believe I'm old.

There are ways to minimize this as a concern, like limiting your resume to the last 10 years, removing the year you graduated, etc.

It's such a brutal market as just about everyone agrees. I don't think it's you. Most people are getting hired through their network right now. Have you cultivated a strong network?

It happens. Keep in mind there may also be internal candidates, ALOT cheaper to promote from within. Candidate pools are pretty with amazing talent in certain parts of the country these days. AND your age has NOTHING to do with it. I'd abandon using that as a concern. IMO

Recruiter here. We had 3,617 candidates for the last role I worked on. A lot of them checked every box, and many were overqualified. It is unfortunately that kind of market right now.
