I got a job offer from a large financial institution!

I got a job offer from a large financial institution! Part of me wants to celebrate and jump up and down, and then the other part of me is cautiously optimistic. The offer is contingent upon a successful background check. I have a misdemeanor back in 2009 when I was young and stupid. This misdemeanor has nothing to do with banking, theft, fraud, and the like.

I want to be positive, but I don't want to be blindsided with a rejection. Should I be worried?

    That was 16 years ago. I wouldn’t worry so much. You’ve clearly had other jobs since and passed background checks and you will again. Stay strong, stay faithful!

    Virtually all offers are contingent on passing a background check and/or drug test.

    I would not be overly concerned about something that happened in 2009 - most only go back 7 years, sometimes 10 and I don't think I've ever not cleared a background check because of a misdemeanor - we're usually looking for felony convictions and DUIs.

    Cautiously optimistic is good. They may have policies that allow for mistakes.

    That misdemeanor shouldn't even show up in a background check 16 years later (I know in Ohio they can go back up to 7 years).
