Overwhelmed by job search but need to be 'on' for interviews

So, I have been looking for a job for 2 months now after I received notice of an upcoming layoff. It has actually been going pretty well. I have had several interviews and next week I have three final interviews for positions that are actually pretty cool.

But here is the rub. Since I have been going hard putting in applications, finding a job has consumed me. Between work, family, and applications, this morning I hit the point where I was completely overwhelmed.

I decided to not apply for any jobs today and rest. But is it okay to limit my job search to my three final interviews next week? I am having mixed feelings about it because one of the ways I have been keeping sane through the interview process is that after each interview, I write it off and immediately find another job to apply to. That way, if I don't get a callback, I am not crushed. But apparently, this strategy while it seemed good on paper and worked for a while has left me overwhelmed. So, I think I am really asking: "How can I tackle these three final interviews next week in a healthy way and get over this feeling of being overwhelmed?" Any suggestions for a healthier approach?

Take a break. Give yourself one day of the next week each day to focus on the final meetings with each potential company. Come up with a list of final questions to ask each one ( they should be the same for all) and use those to assure you know everything you need to should you be lucky enough to have 3 offers. Then determine what would make you pick one over the other and stack rank your favorite. Remember that you want first right of refusal vs getting rejected by the ones that are 2 and 3. Don't add any new suitors until you get through this batch because it will continue to overwhelm you. If you end up empty handed then you can start the process once again. Focus now is the most important thing to have to get through this time and be sure to do some calming things just for you each day that have zero to do with your job search. Good luck!

Taking a break is absolutely the right strategy. In addition to breaks, stagger your "work " day with mini breaks for walks, a coffee or take lunch outside. You must give yourself room to live and breathe.

I find meditation first thing in the morning helps me set my intention and pace for the day. Do some breath work during the day to bring yourself back into the present moment.

Congratulations on your successful search. It sounds like you will have several offers to decide on soon. Your strategy serves as great inspiration for the rest of us.
