Training programs for first-time people managers

Training programs for first-time people managers

Hi all! It's my first foray into management and one of my developmental goals for the year is to take some training for first-time people managers. I work for a nonprofit (in editorial/journalism), so cost can be prohibitive, but regardless, I would love to hear about any and all programs, classes, seminars (preferably virtual, but I live in NYC if there is something that is only in-person) that are recommended. Thanks!

I love that you are taking the initiative to get additional management training. I wish many managers were so proactive. If you haven’t already used Udemy and Coursera offers project management courses you can take are your convenience if you haven’t tried those already.

Here are a few sources I can think of. LinkedIn learning has a plethora of options. American Management Association has virtual on-demand courses that are reasonably priced. I've heard edX has some good courses but I haven't looked at any of them. Some of them may have NFP discounts so be sure to research that.

If you'd like to talk about what topics might be most useful, please reach out. My expertise is Leadership Development.

Thank you, both! I have looked into AMA (the manager bootcamp is ~$2k, and I work for a nonprofit, so that cost is likely prohibitive), and will take a look into some of the others mentioned.

There may be some one-off topics that you can complete that will be helpful and not the $2K investment.

Try this organization. They have a bunch of courses coming up that cost $55
