Security measures at my company

Security measures at my company

I have been working with a company for a little over 3 months. I have observed the culture and the company has a moderately high turnover and people that leave unceremoniously with no notice. 1 person didn’t even let the company know that they quit but just never showed back to work.

With everything going on in this world including workplace violence, I am now concerned about the safety of the employees. We have a code to enter the office so does everyone that has left. The company has not changed the code. Also, the CEO mistreats her employees and many people do not like her which adds fuel to the fire.

i would like to present a security card system so when someone leaves, their card would be deactivated. What are your thoughts on this? Any other suggestions for security.

fyi - the door to the building is open until 7 pm.

Any insights or suggestions are appreciated.

I think you've posted before regarding the CEO that is not favored. As far as security goes, it's not your job to change it, but if you feel your safety is at risk, ask those above if they would change it. Other than that, I would focus on finding a new job where you feel safe, are appreciated and are not watching people quit daily.

Unless you are in the position at this specific job that you are the person who is the in-charge of all workings of the company, any issues you see as needed to be addressed are merely your self reflection and you have no control over it. You can ask for your own personal information, about the security situation concerning the entry door but you can’t do anything beyond that like demanding a change. You are not in charge of the company, you are merely an employee at the company one of many employees.

If the company is open to suggestions and acts on them you may have some great safety tips for them to implement. Ask if there is a suggestion box on security or other improvements to office security and safety.

If you do not feel safe and they are not interested in suggestions start looking for another position elsewhere.

Is there a specific event or person that made you feel unsafe? Or is it just a general feeling? If it’s person or event specific, you need to consult with your manager and HR. If it’s a general feeling, would you feel this way at any other job or in other daily life scenarios? If so, you may want to work through your anxieties with a professional before they worsen.

Are the codes individually assigned upon hire? Why would the building be open until 7:00pm - I think that may defeat the purpose of said fob/keyless entry system. (I may be interpreting this wrong?

These systems are quite easy to manipulate to give or take away access for the employees….

    Have threats been made?

As far as not giving notice before leaving the company ….i don’t know what events took place (if any?).

Some employees just don’t fit in a company/position. Did HR get involved at any point?

I see you’ve observed a lot of things where the company could improve- have you done the same for positives?

I’m sure that you have the most positive intentions. However, I do not believe that your security card suggestion will be well received. The CEO mistreats her employees, there is a moderately high turnover, and they CLEARLY don’t see their broken security system therefore there’s nothing to fix! Personally, I would be circulating my résumé for a company that cares about the safety of their employees and share my security card suggestion at the exit interview …”AFTER”…I have secured another position! ?

Who handles providing those codes upon hire? I would suggest that they also own to be on top of that. If all of you have the same code, that just doesn't make sense.

Cheaper would be that everyone has their own code system, and those be deactivated. cheaper that having to actually get actual cards.

What is your role at the company?

Is the card system brand new or already in place? You'll need to get an estimate for costs for having installed. Also, once a reader is installed, you'll need to make sure that employees are up to date on who is and is not with the company, also some sort of policy for employees who lose their cards and any sort of repercussions for employees who randomly let people into the office who don't have cards, especially a termed employee. Can I safely assume there is some sort of job abandonment policy?

Traditional authentication methods are fundamentally flawed. Passwords are susceptible to phishing, brute-force attacks, and human error (forgetting, reusing). One-time passwords (OTPs) add a layer but are vulnerable to SIM-swapping and are cumbersome.WWPass https://www.wwpass.com/ addresses these vulnerabilities by eliminating the shared secret (password) model entirely. It employs client-side encryption, where a unique cryptographic key pair is generated. The private key remains securely stored on a user's trusted device (e.g., a smartphone or hardware token), while the public key is registered with the service. Authentication is performed via a cryptographic challenge-response protocol, proving ownership of the private key without it ever leaving my device.
