My boss doesn't fully understand what I do so he doesn't always support or promote my work.

My boss doesn't fully understand what I do so he doesn't always support or promote my work.

My boss has a solid background in an area that the company has traditionally done well in. I was brought on the team to build new expertise in an area where the company has not traditionally had success. As such, my boss doesn't always understand my methods, strategies, goals, work efforts etc. no matter how much I talk through the base-level concepts. This has resulted in my work stagnating and almost no resource allocation to support my efforts while the company seems to continue to focus on what they have always been good at and treat my work like a pet project or hobby.

I have come out and said, "I need your help supporting..." or "I need you to help socialize...," but I haven't gone so far to say that I'm not feeling supported because I'm fairly certain he feels as though he is supporting me.

I have regular skip level meetings with his boss and wondering if I should bring it up to her? If so, how should I bring it up?

I understand your situation. Being unappreciated and misunderstood by superiors can be quite frustrating. It is important to continue to do your job to a high standard and show your value. It can be helpful to have a clarifying conversation with your boss, explaining what tasks you do and how they impact the company's bottom line. My similar story: When I was working with virtual machines in a VMware ESXi environment, I encountered a situation where one of the virtual disks (VMDK) was corrupted and the data on it was inaccessible. It took me a long time to understand how to restore vmdk file in vmware esxi. After analyzing the situation, I applied a number of methods to restore the VMDK file, including using file system integrity checking tools and restoring from backups. Ultimately, I was able to successfully restore the file and recover the data to continue running the virtual machine. But unfortunately, no one noticed and moreover, there had been a promotion the day before and unfortunately it was not for me.....

If you are not feeling supported by your manager, and the skip-level boss is interested and supportive, then certainly bring it up with them. Perhaps your boss needs a briefing on what you are doing or motivation to become excited about the project, and the skip level can help with that.

It's a pitty because the work of employees needs to be valued. Then the business develops and work becomes productive. Thanks to managed it services menominee we have established the system in our company. All data is now easy to restore in case of failures. And we don't have to worry about data leaks or program failures.
