Genuine and Authentic Networking

Genuine and Authentic Networking
I had a client ask me about how they could network in a more genuine and authentic way and thought what a perfect topic to also bring to this community.
First: if you’re already asking the question or if networking genuinely and authentically is important to you then you’re already in a great spot
Second: We can increase the authenticity by leaning into the methods of communication and interaction that you are already having with your immediate network.
If you have a network of people that you’re already connected to on Instagram - use that. If you have a group of people that you regularly see at events or that you have a group chat with - use that.
We don’t need to make networking messy and formal - especially if we are starting with our immediate network. Use the methods of communication and the interaction that you already have with your network to then network more intentionally.
Third: Be transparent and ask genuine questions. If it feels genuine and authentic to be transparent and to tell someone in your network that you are job searching or if it feels more authentic to be even more transparent and to share that you are looking for a job at their company say that.
You can be transparent, genuine, and professional all at the same time.
Fourth: Ask about the other persons goals and needs . An important part of networking is providing value to those you are networking with. It is a lot easier to provide genuine and meaningful value if you know what that person’s goals and needs are.
If others have ideas or steps that can contribute to more genuine and authentic networking I'd love to hear them!
