I want to share my experience for the past 6 months
I worked for a company where the HR Director and the new MD treated me badly. I tried everything in my power to change that by putting in many extra hours, going the extra mile on many projects, never absent etc etc, but they continued adding more workload on. I started making mistakes and when it came to the performance review, they took money away from my bonus and didn’t give me an increase. All the other employees receive theirs.
I was exhausted! This was new territory to me as I normally get on well with everyone and I just couldn’t figure out why I was treated so differently.
By that time I was very close to a burn out. Long story short I decided to leave and I was fortunate enough to negotiate and receive a severance payout.
During my last days there I was headhunted, went for the interview and got the job. How lucky, right? WRONG!
Started working beginning March and second week in March I was informed that the company would be working short time. Middle April I was given my letter of dismissal. Last in first out policy.
My confidence took a huge dive, but continued searching and applying for many positions. Some came back with a definite no and others just never responded. I applied to over 30 from April to now. No interview in site.
A week ago I received a call from a headhunter asking if I would be interested in a job and sent me all the details.
This time I was being careful, yes I needed a job urgently, but I needed to see their culture and financial stability. (Makes sense right?)
There were 17 applicants, two rounds of interviews. The second interview was from 11:15 to 15:30. I was scheduled with 6 managers and directors. I did this in German and know, it is an extremely difficult language if it isn’t your mother tongue. I am excited to say I signed the contract with them today, starting 01Jul.
Here is my point: I am 53, with no degree, Finding a job isn’t easy at our age especially living in a foreign country and a huge language barrier.
Don’t give up ladies.
Change your CV to read the right wording. I used Jobscan to scan my CV and updated it.
Make sure your LinkedIn profile is updated. I believe that is where my headhunter found my profile.
And believe in yourself! Self confidence is the key!! Something will happen at the right time.
Third time lucky, I hope? Thank you that I could share my experience.
