As you may or may not know, I am a project manager of sorts for the Power Industry. My son who will be 21 this year started his first full time job. I'm very proud of him and he is working hard.
My son is like me. He likes organization and structure. He was very excited to start the job and learn as much as he can. In his first week he received two badges (awards) for going above and beyond in his job. The week after that he received two more. So his motivation and excitement grew tremendously. I applaud this company for doing this.
However, they have team meetings and he shows up for the meeting and his manager never shows up. So they sit there for a few minutes and end up going back to work. This drives me insane. I find that his manager lacks leadership skills. It is such a letdown for these employees and shows that their manager really doesn't care. I'm at the point that I want to go get a job there and be a manager to show them what a manager really is how important it is to be a people leader more than anything.
What would you do? It's driving me crazy and I want to go fix things.
