I’m a recently laid off Party City employee and as my store is winding down, I’m looking forward my next career opportunity. Just some background on me: I have more than 10 years of retail/ customer service experience under my belt and come to enjoy it. I just have that sort of social, bubbly personality. But, at this point in my life, I need something a bit more stable and long term. You know, better pay, benefits career growth opportunities, etc. That’s the one thing that these jobs have never provided me, no matter how much I like them. Any advice on where a former retail employee can get a fresh start?

Perhaps a Customer Support role might work. Sales department may also work. Not sure what your education level is. Western Governors University (WGU) is a lower cost online college that I felt did a good job if you wanted to get a degree.

Thanks, I’ll check those roles out. I’m not too interested in getting a degree (I have a Bachelor’s from Texas State University), but maybe a license or certification. Any industries or companies you recommend?

Some high tech (Such as Meta) are going through restructuring. They want to remove lower performing people and replace with higher performing. https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/14/business/meta-layoffs-low-performers/index.html. It may be worth trying there since they pay well and you seem like a high performer.

I know recruiters at my company look at LI when people are sharing that they've been laid of by PC. Please consider posting this on there, connecting with retailers in your area that you would be interested and go and look at their people and reach out to connect to their recruiters.

If you want something more stable, would suggest something tech or medical. (Ex: hospital billing or scheduling, sales operations could also be a good fit if you have prior experience with inventory and placing orders.)
