Hey guys! I've been working with a contractor for about 6 months. Recently, her work wasn't quite hitting the mark so we held off on assigning her additional projects.
She recently submitted her hours report and logged 30 hours at her rate of $50/hr. I asked her to provide a breakdown of how those hours were spent, as I had only one project assigned to her during that time period.
It was a 500 word blog post. We traditionally charge 3 hours for works like these, as they do not require an expert specialist and are essentially written as "fluff" pieces to keep up with content creation before our SEO team goes through and optimizes for their content clusters.
She is now claiming that all 30 hours were allotted to this project between research and writing. Originally within the scope of work she was required to reach out to the client for a brief interview, that was also not done.
I don't want to come off rude or unsympathetic, but this piece was a complete miss without the direction of the client and the hours billed have us losing most than $1000 on this project for something that is not a piece I'm even comfortable sending off to the client.
How can I address this with her to resolve the issue?
