When applying for remote work should apply for jobs in different time zones? If I am in NY and apply for remote work in California and I expected to work California time? Is it worth applying for the position and wait for the recruiter? I am asking if I should limit my job search for remote to my own time zone.

Some companies are good with you working your own time zone hours, whereas some companies and/or jobs necessitate you work their time zone. I think you should consider applying for any job in any time zone. You might not know if you have to work the company's time zone until you speak to a recruiter, so I would suggest applying and then learning what the parameters are on work hours.

Some jobs are more flexible than others.

I’ve worked remotely for a Miami based company for 6 years. All of our hours are based on EST./EDT currently. Employees from TX and AZ start based on the same so if they get an 8-4:30 schedule, they’re starting super early.

Seek jobs that state those expectations up front (either in the job application or in the first interview). Typically, they want someone in the same time zone maybe even commutable, but for certain fields they want their ACE employee so long as you get the job done, they don't mind the time zone.

    Good luck!

It really depends on the team. If it is fully remote, you may get a team that works NYC time for a CA company or vice versa. Other teams just split the time down the middle and try to hold meetings midday and allow a staggered start/end. I would not limit yourself unless the job description says specifically must be online 9am-5 pm PST and you can't do that. But do ask. I have worked with teams from across the US and even Europe and it has always been flexible, so don't limit yourself until you find out.
