I don’t know what to do. I’ve been striking out on finding a flexible work from home job. I need a work from home job because I have a child with mental health issues and there are times when I need to leave to pick her up. Anyone know of a place that’s hiring? I’m in Phoenix, AZ for reference.

I recommend subscribing to the Rat Race Rebellion newsletter. They try to vet all of the remote opportunities they promote, but you still need to remain vigilant when applying. It might be worth a try! Just remember, no legitimate remote job will send you a check to purchase your own IT equipment (which is different than BYOD Bring Your Own Device). Companies with established remote workforces send you their own equipment because they need to setup security, software and MDM tools - they track this as an asset. If an employer says they're going to send you a check, it's a fake check job scam. Hope you find a remote role soon!

Can you work with a counselor or Catholic Charities in your area to find a daycare provider that handles special needs children? They won't require pickups as often because they are more equipped to work through different situations, for example with children on the spectrum. That might allow you to have a more traditional in office position and not have the added worry of watching your phone for that call to pick her up constantly. Good luck and sending hugs!

Sadly no. She’s 15 almost 16 and I haven’t found anything like that out here. It’s been a struggle and admittedly is also tanking my mental health as well.

Something to consider, FMLA covers missed work hours for any unplanned leaves (a full day, half day etc……

I know an employee I’d worked with used it for migraines- wish I had more info

Look into WGU (Western Governors University). They have an office in Phoenix and offer a lot of WFH opportunities. Positions are full-time but there can be some flexibility in your schedule.

There are platforms such as virtualvocations and flexjobs that focus on remote jobs. Find the platform that focuses on the area of work you're looking for. Good luck!
