Ms. Applewhite's Ted Talk added a vibrant voice to the ageism conversation! Why do we all avoid the realities of maturation as if it were a horrible curse? "A fate worse than death!" We fear the unknown and lose sight of all the wonderful gifts we are given to share with others as we age. ENOUGH already!! I will always be more than a reflection of my birthdate. "Fight misconceptions and perceived limitations in everything that you do.

What is truly remarkable is that younger people aren't going to be young forever. Aging cannot be stopped and is universal. Getting old happens to everyone. All of the younger people who make jokes about older people, or employers who don't hire older workers and/or don't protect them from ageism in the workplace, are going to be older some day, too, and likely to face the same discrimination and ageist attitudes. If we all work together now, younger people will reap the benefits when they approach 50.
