This is the first time I’ve had a boss believe in me and even mention a possible promotion… now what?!

what should I know about an internal promotion? (Other than don’t get my hopes up lol)

what can I do to further show I’m capable?

if you’re a boss what do you look for?

Congratulations! Keep the good work, what you’re doing seems to be aligned with your boss’s expectations, and most likely this is why she mentioned it. Also, if you feel you already fill all the expectations from your current role and you think you could take on more responsibility, do it. You can offer to help on more topics. A good leader will see this as a sign that you’re ready to grow. Just be careful and don’t over promise or burn yourself in the process. Do what you feel will be sustainable over time. The rest will most likely happen naturally and you don’t need to worry about it.

Since it is an SVP, they are most likely expecting an opening(s) and looking for a few candidates to target internally for the spot(s). It could be a pending resignation, termination, retirement, or expansion opportunity. Look at it as a positive sign and try to keep the lines of communication open. Have you asked for any further information? Good luck.

This is outstanding! Props to you for your SVP believing in you and your abilities. Growth opportunities is a general term that often means "taking on more," whether that be stretch assignments, informal leadership opportunities, internal promotions, and the like. As you move forward, demonstrate both interest and initiative in new things that come your way, even if they seem scary to you. Your boss wants you to learn and grown, and that might mean putting you in new and unfamiliar situations. Be ready to embrace the unknown, knowing your boss believes in your ability to take on new and more things. Good luck!
