Running into issues where my experience is global and national and the area I'm currently residing favors regional experience.

Running into issues where my experience is global and national and the area I'm currently residing favors regional experience.

I grew up in this area and recently moved back as I have aging parents who needed my help. I have 25 years of marketing and PR experience but after being unable to find work at my former level, I accepted a role to have a paycheck. Now that I'm looking to find a more senior position, I'm receiving backlash regarding my current position and that most of my experience is from London and NYC rather than this region.

My end goal is find a role where I'll eventually conclude my career and I'm fearing that I made a misstep taking my role as it's seems to have lowered my experience rather than enhancing my resume.

Instead of realizing that I needed to re-establish myself locally, I'm seen as at this level, judge by my current role instead of sum of my experiences. I'd appreciate your help as I'm utilizing connections but even with their support, I'm unable to obtain interviews.

I believe it is referred to as being “overqualified” for the position. Is there a way that you can tone down your resume?

JJ, that's what I'm running into with this area. There aren't a lot of jobs here and I needed a paycheck while seeking a permanent role. I have senior director roles on my resume so it's hard to tone down my resume with positions at that level. I made them director instead of senior and customize my resume for the applications.

Would you be open to remote roles within global companies that might favour your global experience? What is your current job position and previous if you don't me asking? I actually specialise in supporting clients in landing non-technical roles at top tech companies, so would love to see how I can help.

Thank you, Coach P. I'm open to remote roles but I'm finding they are more difficult to obtain. I feel my background would be better served in a larger company but in a non-tech role. My current position doesn't align with my past senior director roles. The town I'm residing has few and far between positions and if I say the company's name, my identity would be revealed.

How long have you been in your current position? It will critical to think about framing in your resume, has it been less than 12 months or less than 6 months for example?

Having extensive experience seems frustrating when the local market prefers regional expertise. Maybe uncover how global and national trends apply locally.
