Recently, I had to step down from a role I'd only been in for a few months to relocate to a different state for personal/family reasons. What is the best approach when applying for roles in this situation -- it is better to just leave the role off the resume or keep it on the resume and explain that you left for personal/family reasons?

Depending on how long you worked at your previous job. If it was less than a year I’d skip it and explain the gap as a family health care situation or whatever. Lots of people are having to become caregivers right now I’ve noticed. Explain that you are no longer encumbered and ready to work.

Never leave it off the resume. Add it just like you would other jobs. Then add family caregiver as the title, and the from to present or from to specific date. In your cover letter, state why you are interested in said role. Mention your previous role and what you learned, then mention, due to family circumstances, temporarily assisted as a family caregiver. If you are looking to get back to work 100%, say that. Otherwise, they will wonder are you able to commit 100% to the job.

If you'd only been there a few months exactly what value does that bring your resume? You were only in a probation period.
