Even if a job doesn't pay well; it's still a good stepping stone. I graduated at that time; I worked hard, had roommates and pooled food. I turned down a couple of job offers that didn't seem ethical and then worked temp jobs where I was proactive - I found things to do that would help the company which landed me a fulltime job. And now I'm a VP at a small company.

I don't know which financial crisis you're referring, but it you are referring to the market crash in 2008/2009, it wasn't just millenials who survived, GenX's did too and I was one of them. Survival in terms of a job means taking whatever positions are offered to earn income, reducing expectations of having "things", learning to shop a lot less, not going out as much, not going on trips, it's adjusting to the world as it was and still is now in the recession and overpriced goods, not to mention new tariffs. It's keeping what you have, appreciating what you have, and learning to live frugally. I STILL do this and value so much, my car, my belongings and my job.

Graduated college in 2012 with a chemistry degree. First job was a contract job at 40k/yr but I was the only one graduating from the chemistry dept that year that had a job lined up. Went back to grad school for engineering on a scholarship after working for 2 years. Currently rent my home, married with net worth of 170k, senior engineer working for the state at 115k/yr.
