What's up with Monster?

What's up with Monster?

So, yeah, I'm looking for the next great thing. Somehow, Monster appeared on my radar, so I thought, let's give this a go!

Y'all, I'm not sure if I was catfished or phished or if my identity and work background were stolen. I may have been trafficked for all I know.

Here's the tea... I received many calls from recruiters with a specific ethnic background. Each call tried to sucker me into going with jobs that were half my pay rate. And in cities I could never afford to live in. (I may have been punked.) However, I did video interviews with people who claimed to have worked for the companies, and they had no technical clue about what was going on.

Needless to say, I shut down my Monster account after 48 hours, and I'm wondering if anyone else experienced the same.

Keep your info private. Theycwill notify you of jobs, do your research then release your resume. Nothing online is private.

I haven't heard of Monster in years, but it was the same when I used it 15-20 years ago. I'm sure they made more money from selling email address lists of job searchers than they did from recruiting fees from employers. Nothing was ever listed in my wheelhouse (I was looking for management jobs), and every time I touched my profile, my email box exploded with scam-type jobs "offers" that didn't fit my profile in the least and online degrees from places that are now defunct. You did the right thing, shutting it down.

Thank you for the warning. It’s helpful not only for people to stay away, but might help some people who feel their job hunt has been fruitless to understand theres a good chance they were talking to someone with nefarious intentions rather than an actual recruiter.

    Are they in India?

    Yes

I'm sorry, and I know there's a stigma, please don't assume what country they are calling from as a scam. You have to be aware from any call if you feel it may not be legit. Our Indian fellow human beings don't deserve to have to be bucketed into that.

But why do they seem to be calling from the US when they aren't? Honesty is complete transparency. I now receive over 20 calls daily for the same job. Only now have they changed their LinkedIn profiles to read an American name, but they forgot to change their location from India. And they're dishonest about pay practices.

again, point is to not come across as bucketing anyone ethnicity in this light, what recruiters in the US are legit, we need to be and do better with our assumption judgements. Take this as what it is as an opportunity, not as a shame shame back. Rise above it. If you can't, that makes me sad. I have several indian recruiters at my company and we are in the US.

Rise above your bias you're showing, wish you and any in this situation gets better.
