Chat GPT thinks I'm my boss.

Chat GPT thinks I'm my boss. We have a department account that we all use. Under the main account you can toggle between the "team" account and the "personal" account. I assumed the "personal" account was personal to me, but when I switched over I saw several personal queries from my boss including requests to refine her resume for a job application and advice for how to discipline a co-worker. How do I address this? I don't want to embarrass my boss.

I’d probably just ignore it and move on.

If you have a solid relationship with your manager, you could give them a quiet heads-up—something like, “Hey, I noticed a few prompts in the ChatGPT account that looked like they were meant to be private. I think there might be some confusion around how the ‘personal’ tab works.” Keep it casual and supportive, not critical.

It’s also worth remembering that anything typed into a company-provided software tool—AI or otherwise—is generally accessible to management through admin-level permissions. Even “personal” sections in corporate tools often aren’t truly private from an IT or compliance standpoint.

And with generative AI tools specifically, there’s an added layer: depending on how the tool is configured, your inputs might be visible to anyone else using the same system across the company. “Personal” often just means “not in the team chat,” not “isolated from everyone else’s view.”

If everyone has access to your boss's 'Personal' account, you may need to let someone she trusts (maybe that is you) that the login isn't that personal.

This will save the embarrassment of future coworkers finding out.

You create your own profile and search prompts

When used correctly, ChatGpt is a tool. You are not using it correctly.

I would ask your IT department how to set up your personal account or to set it up for you. Whether or not you tell them you have access to your boss's account is up to you.

Does not sound like a very smart boss to me. Using company software and time to look for another job. Why not use ChapGPT at home if you are looking for another job? I would drop a small hint to your boss.

  7. Anonymous

It could have been for a posted or even unposted job internally. So saying she wasn't smart is rather judgmental.

Internal jobs aka intercompany transfers are one thing. I have done 3 intercompany transfers in my time. Far easier to get out of a bad division or bad boss this way. Right now, internal candidates have a big leg up on external candidates. BUT using company time and company software to apply for extermal or internal jobs is a bad idea. If your boss or boss's boss finds out, you could lose your job very quickly. This is just reckless and foolish. When I did my three intercompany transfers, I NEVER EVER told my boss until my transfer was signed off by the new manager and company HR.

You don’t owe anything to your boss. You don’t have to let her know .. someone will find out , you did. And save her embarrassment for what ??? SHE was incredibly stupid. Period. If you have to talk to HR about what you found . It’s a huge privacy risk for your co-workers , they don’t deserve such an incompetent boss.

wow, hope I don't work with you. What a horrible response and an awful way to treat someone. What is wrong with you?

  11. Anonymous

I would let her know what you know in a private conversation. Without being specific in the talk tell her that you can see her private requests and that perhaps making individual accounts would be better for her. Then let her solve it herself. If she asks you to show her do it and then while showing her say nothing. She will figure it out and appreciate you for doing so. If she says to you keep mum about things let her know you are discreet, end of story. It's the right thing to do.

What a kind and thoughtful response!

  13. Anonymous

    Yeah, don't let her know.

CHATGPT doesn't think anything. Please create your own account and stop using your boss's login. That will fix the problem.

Such nastiness here lately. If a work place created the account and shows a toggle between team and personal, it's reasonable to think they created personal accounts. It does not appear so. Perhaps she can create her own free account at home, but that would not necessary be possible at work. She would need to approach IT and ask about personal account and what it means.

  16. Anonymous

There is no "toggling" feature for ChatGpt or any a.i. applications.

  17. Anonymous

Perhaps it's not ChatGPT. There are many workplace aps that include both group and personal functions including AI. Companies can easily create their own AI. You can too.

AI in its current iteration is architecturally incapable of reasoning. I find it is useful for getting correct answers for formatting related questions specific to APA citations, and I tend to use MS Copilot rather than Chat-GPT which just provides minimalistic, clinical responses.

Wow!! The insensitive, nasty, and quite obnoxious comments here! Personally, I have no idea how to use any AI tools. I know nothing about them and no one in my company is teaching us how to use them. At the same time, our IT team has been banning many as a security risk, so I am concerned about learning on my own. Anyway I have a good relationship with my manager and would definitely approach them if they aren't aware the private account is accessible to others. They may not realize everyone is sharing a login or, if that's the case, are you sure it was your boss that made the inquiries, it could have also been another teammate or manager that is also using the shared login.

    Geez.....

  22. Anonymous

You could handle it by simply and discreetly addressing the matter with your manager. Simply tell her that there's been a mix-up in the data between the accounts and advise her as to how to correct it.

  23. Anonymous

I had a situation similar to this and this was how I handled it. The issue was fixed quickly and without further conversation.

  24. Anonymous

Shared accounts with personal aspects are not always straightforward in the work environment. I recommend asking IT if the work GPT account is personal and perhaps it was not set up correctly. It may not work like that at all. And it will get fixed.

If you are concerned about your boss, seeing her resume updates etc., you may want to tell her that her information is showing up on the personal account in case she was not aware. IT can help you both resolve.

I highly recommend you set up your own free ChatGPT account at home on your own computer. It's a great way to learn and explore AI. There are many options added over the last year.

lol. Put it in the vault.

  26. Anonymous

Why would you address it? It sounds like your boss is just ready to move on. Maybe you can ask if there's anything you can help them with a little more. If they're trying to ask for advice on disciplinary methods and also looking for a job, they may have alot going on. Atleast they asked for advice versus reacting off of emotions; albeit, it should have been to HR.

You can generally ask your boss, if personal means your personal account in ChatGPT, Or is it being shared across the team. You can generally ask your boss for tips in using ChatGPT. You can generally let them know that other accounts are showing up in usage as well.

"I'd like to disclose something that you may not know...." this will help her clean up the history in ChatGPT.
