Sounds like a scam. There should always be a face to face portion, be in via video or in person.

I've just started hearing of these and they sound fishy to me.

Most of the scams that I hear about seem to initiate through text messages - this may be the newest version of that.

I don't know any legitimate recruiters that don't want to speak with their candidates. Personally I hate being on camera, so I do either a phone call or TEAMS without the camera but this sounds shady to me.

It must be the name; I hate the camera too!

If only a chat and not anyone on the screen interviewing attached with the company, I would pass.
Teams interviews very natural, only a chat, not so much, that sounds like a screening, seek clarification.

I've had a few through teams chat but they've all been video meetings and a few questionnaires after. You can always check the email against the company website. I always look at the info@companyname.com email to make sure the @companyname is the same.

It really is getting ridiculous with all the scams!

    Helpful tips:

Make sure you look up the interviewer on LinkedIn as well and make sure it's all connects!

    Never download any apps.

Never open any links without double checking them, copy and paste the link without pressing enter to make sure it's not a different hyperlink.

    Good luck!

Seems odd not to use the video function. The could offer the questionnaire via the chat I suppose. But this is definitely not the most productive method of interviewing

I had this happen once. They stated that they wanted to eliminate bias. But later rounds, it was a video interview. But I have only had it happen once.

I had this happen to me and it turned out that it was a scam. They wanted me to purchase the needed MacBook and iPad from a website that they named. At that point, I put the breaks on and started investigating and after doing some Google searches, I found it was a scam. I was frustrated as I had put a lot of time into the interviews.

Why are you leery of an interviewer who doesn't want to be on camera?

I hate being on camera. I don't expect candidates to be on camera. I find it makes some candidates more nervous.
