Welcome to the community ! Happy you’re here.

Best advice I ever received was to have a vision for your career but don’t close down some of the unexpected things that come your way.

Welcome! Great to have you here.

My personal passion has always been to teach. God has had another path for me, however, and my 35+ year career has been in the office environment. This has never dulled my love for teaching and I've been an Independent Tutor for 12 years now. My collegiate path has been in education. I just received my MSEd in Higher Education this past September, and will start my Doctorate this March. My current job, which I've been at for nearly 22 years, is for a sales/marketing firm. They've never been extremely supportive of my educational journey as it doesn't apply to their business direction.

That's ok. I didn't go to college to be something better for my company. I went to college to be something better for myself.

Never let anyone dim your shine.

I agree with your statement. I was going to get a certification that I thought would not only help me, but help accreditate my skills. The words of my employer were, well, that doesn't get recognized here. When it wasn't about my employer recognizing me, it was my own professional connections. As the cert was pricey, I didn't do it and the window was lost as the director would say no for paying for it.
