Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma certification?

Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma certification?

I currently work in advertising/marketing in an operational capacity. I manage budgets, resourcing, workflows, certain tech-you get the picture. I would love to know if anyone in the community has gotten this type of certification and can speak to which one I should pursue. After researching, I still can't tell which one would be more beneficial. I have more than 25 years experience and want to continue learning new ways of looking at things. Thank you!!!

I did it because it was all the rage 20 years ago. Never actually used it because it is very formal for specific programming project management. I am a project manager among other things but not a programmer. Most of the companies that thought they wanted to implement six sigma didn’t know how to truly implement it since it does require education and time from senior management. I want to the green belt level. It was interesting training and pretty expensive and I suppose people are impressed by it. If I were you I would get some excellent project management training you can always use that. I think UCLA extension or some other universities offer excellent on line certification programs. Good luck!

OP here-thank you for sharing your experience. I agree, it was all the rage a long time ago, but as I continued to research, I don't see lots of places asking for it. It's like agile-it has morphed into so many different things. I don't know how useful it would be to me at this point and I appreciate your perspective!

Do your research. Take the shot where you invest your time (have others invest the money). Advice I've heard is choose the one that your employer (or future employers) value. Play the game with the players who value the certification. The only people I know who got these were A. wealthy/connected or B. supported (by employer).

    Good luck.

What are you wanting to pursue one of these certifications?

I’d go for LEAN if I had to pick one, and if you are looking at project management, look into Agile or SAFE certification. That seems to be the rage these days. Six sigma seems to be mostly reserved for manufacturing, so unless you’re in that industry, it may not be as helpful.
