63 this year and feeling lost. Tired of the corporate games, but I like the $. Want to work until full retirement age which is 67, so 4 more years. Just got laid off. Is there any company that will hire someone in their 60s?

Yes there are, but I'm not sure who. I belong to a job seekers group for 50+, and there are people in their 60s and even 70s getting jobs. I've not had much luck either because I need health insurance and many of the roles that the older adults are taking do not need it.

Hi! Would you be able to share the job seekers group for 50+? I'm 64 and would love to join.

It's through the AARP Foundation. You have to apply and get accepted (its free). They have new groups starting about every other month.

Yes, there are. You may want to look toward non-profits, as they often hire seasoned employees. It will depend on your skills, experience, and ability, but if you have volunteered previously, you might go back to them and see if they are hiring. You said you like the $, so I'm unsure how much you want, but this might be a pay cut. You are smart to wait until full retirement age, because you take a significant hit if you take early retirement from SS. One thing you can do is take early retirement and then go back to work. Whatever you contribute when you go back will count toward your full retirement. There are a lot of nuances and conditions if you choose this route, so look it up on ssa.gov before making any decisions.

I am 62. There are plenty of companies that are hiring. All depends on your skillsets. The problem with the younger workers is most of them are "one trick ponies." Go find a job where you have to be able to handle 2-3-4 different areas of expertise. There goes most of the competition. And looks for HYBRID roles. Avoid remotes if you can. Another way to get rid of three quarters of the competition.

I feel your pain. I am 60 and laid off. The job market in my field is extremely tight as my union president said. Four more years for me =$1,800 per month more in retirement-almost double what I will be able to get if I retire now. It is very frustrating. I "cost more" because of my education and years of service in the education field. My colleague with one year of experience ahs had more interviews than I have had. It is demoralizing.

Follow. I am also 63 and trying to make it to 67. Like what I do but tired of the corporate BS as well. I am employed. Don’t have great suggestion rather than look at legacy organizations such as hospitals, medical, government, utilities. From my observation, they seem to be more willing to look at older employees than, say, a tech company.

At 78 in my state (Oklahoma) I was hired as a substitute teacher. The pay is low, but it shows you can be hired.

As someone who is in their late 60's yes! Don't make your age a thing and go into your interviews with your experience and showing a prospective employer why hiring someone who doesn't need their hand held is best. Good luck!

    Exactly right!

I'm glad to see these positive answers. I have been rejected "gently" a few times with comments such as "someone more moldable" and weird comments that I negate, and they say, "Thank you for understanding. Goodbye." It is so disheartening. I've removed my age indicators and look and behave young. I don't even think I want to retire at my suggested retirement age, but I see this hiring practice within my own company, and it's scary.

I am over 50 and have had challenges and a ton of rejection. Where I am now has a leadership team a bit more senior than usual tech so it worked. You can also consider fractional leadership roles while you search for the right fit.

As a Career Coach, I agree with the wonderful responses. Yes, there absolutely are individuals who hire all ages. Network this because people make the decisions, not organizations. Interview with energy and examples of embracing technology, and you will ease most concerns. You and I are the generations who deeply understand technology. We went from typewriters to smartphones, paper memos to Slack. We birthed and raised technology. LOL!

The consulting field values experience and age can be a plus. Have you led any change initiatives in the past? There are always change management roles posted and I know that field values experience. You might have to spend a couple of days getting a certification.
