I recently applied for a job internally and was rejected after speaking with TA. I have 95% of the qualifications but was rejected due to lack of a specific experience. All the posts I've read say go ahead and apply for positions, even if you don't have 100% of the qualifications, so I do... I just find it disheartening that most companies would rather hire someone who may fit the box on paper but in reality aren't right for the role rather than train someone who may actually fit the role well. I've seen it happen more than once with this company already. How do you all cope?

writing in solidarity. yesterday, I had a second interview for a role that looked like a good fit on paper. The recruiter phone screened and broke down role responsibilities noting that it was a lot of support of the leadership team, meeting prep and administration and project management-all things well within my wheelhouse. In the second round, I was asked to do a business case study to determine if the company should enter a new market and do some financial analysis of how they might do so. At one point, the interviewer noted aloud that a vocab word that I didn't know "would be found in any business textbook." (it's obvious from my application that I do not have a business degree). All of this was quite frustrating as it doesn't relate to the way the role was described, but was evident that this interviewer felt it was very important.

In the end, they can make whatever parameters they want, and I try to remind myself that it's just as important for me to want to work for them, and this experience turned me off. Which is hard when you *need* a job, deep breaths, a walk and refocusing on what you're looking for can be helpful.
