It's an especially challenging job market! If you haven't registered already, I encourage you join us at Inspiration Summit tomorrow! We have a panel "Interviewing 101: Expert Advice That Will Help You Get Your Next Job" that could be helpful!

    Hang in there.
I’ve been there so many times I stopped counting. Try taking a break from looking. Review your resume and cover letter. Clear you mind.

I know you want to “pound the pavement” but sometimes we get so frustrated we get lost in the game instead of playing the game.

Is your resume polished for EACH role- most recent position? Ditto cover letter. No longer is ot acceptable for carbon copies.

I don't know your field; this is based off mine

Have you identified your top skills? Use A.I. to ask what roles/industries BEST fit your skills. Narrow your choices. Search again, but only apply on org websites. Now when you apply, convey how you've used those skills to achieve job/org goals.

Put all that energy into starting your own business. Look at how much time you invested and when you finally get a job offer in 6 months(hopefully), you will be in the same position within a few years.

I've seen this comment come up a few times when people post they are struggling to find a job and I'm curious. I mean, maybe that gets a few people thinking "huh...I've had this idea for a business for years and maybe now is the time to put it in motion." But I'm thinking most people are not going to find starting a business - a successful business - any easier than finding a job (and in some cases may end up costing them more).

So, the curious side of me wants to know what sort of business are you recommend people start?

I have many ideas and I also practice what I preach. Self employed and I am living proof it can be done.

You might try posting your resume on the major job boards and on a specialty job board for your area. Contract jobs are much easier to find than jobs that are "fulltime" (what used to be called "permanent" (ha, ha!)). Usually businesses have an urgent need that they are desiring to fill and often don't care your age, sex, or other aspects of your life, etc. as long as you are reliable and have the required skills. Keep applying for jobs on the job boards also - I have seen that many HMs say that just a fraction of those applying have the desired skills. I was able to get a 14-month contract this way that paid quite well and now have a cushion for my next job search that I would never have had without that job. It may take a month or two, but be patient - someone will need your skills. Wishing you all of the very best!
