Managing A Stressful Work Situation While Planning Your Next Step

I am in a situation where my direct manager is woefully lacking. This individual takes there phone on video to inappropriate locations thankfully nothing has been seen and dresses down at work and always looks like they rolled out of bed. I have unfortunately had the pleasure of having to look at my direct managers bare stomach throughout a one on one due to a too short t-shirt being worn.

Despite 20+ years of experience and having a technical degree the manager does not know how to use MS Office or Teams even though the organization has been on it for almost 7 years. This manager books meetings on top of meetings, does not respond when you counter, message or email regarding said meetings. The manager keeps weird hours and it is not transparent. Yes all red flags while I find my next option.

The manager hired a new co-worker and we have been splitting roles. There has been no formal training and when discussed with my manager how it was not setting the individual up to succeed I was told they are fine and I didn't need to support. However the individual keeps coming to me for support but ignoring my guidance and doing the exact opposite. I have handed off tasks to them and they will literally ask everyone but me about the task and I watch it burn. This individual is older than me and could almost be my parent. However I have 10 years of corporate office experience and 4 years of this particular job experience over them. Yet they will joke and call me kid. Another red flag.

The silver lining is that my managers boss is incredible supportive of me. Knows what is going on and is helping me look for future opportunities. This Director is helping me make smart decisions vs run away decisions. However I really am mentally struggling as I find the next step on how to handle the two vs one mentality.

HR is involved and aware. I am actively looking for next opportunities inside and outside of the company. My director is aware that I am mentally struggling and holding on because they are supporting. What else can I do during this difficult transitional time to help me mentally?

Always take a step back and balance for strength and to gain peace of mind.

That means you focus on your personal life. You meditate and sleep. You spend time in nature and with those you love and trust. You adjust your balance until you truly feel it.

You need to do these things so you develop perspective and recharge. The struggle will remain but if you methodically reorder your priorities, you create more peace and center your energy. Your struggle then becomes much more manageable.

Consider your work as a business transaction. You give and you get. It might help to divide your annual pay by work days and as you get in the car tell yourself “Another $187.50 in the bank to fund what’s really important”

Managing a stressful work situation while planning your next move can be challenging, especially for men who are struggling with fatigue, low energy, or mood swings. Low testosterone levels can make it even more difficult to handle stress. Oral testosterone treatment can help by boosting energy, focus, and overall health. https://www.rethinktestosterone.com/blog/stress-and-testosterone
