I have noticed an increase in demand for Solution architects and a sharp decline in demand for Enterprise architects. I have also noticed that in the job spec for EA roles, the role is actually an SA role. Are companies no longer seeing the value that EA brings?

I’ve noticed the same trend. It seems companies are prioritizing Solution Architects because they provide more immediate, project-level impact, whereas Enterprise Architects are seen as more strategic and long-term. Unfortunately, that can make EA roles feel less tangible or undervalued in the current market.

It seems that businesses are looking more for solutions to fix the problem of the day rather than focusing on long term solutions. Short term success drives up stock prices. Long term success keeps a company around.

Yes, and companies without a long-term strategy and willing to take a stock price hit to achieve those goals will end up going out of business. I used to work for a multi-billion-dollar business back in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s that is now out of business for this very reason.

Interesting insight. I wish more posters would share job trends.

I've been keeping and eye on my 2 fields/domains for over 8 years to ensure I stay relevant and can pivot if needed.

One is strategic and one is tactical. Companies need more doers than overall thinkers. With all of the AI , SaaS Products, aligning all IT Purchases/Software under the IT umbrella instead of each business unit/division and others things changing so quickly. The IT organization is shaping up differently. The strategic decisions are a high level and then the deliverables are lower.
