Career advice needed!

Hey Everyone!

I am a final year student about to step into the job market... I have job offers from two different firms right now. One is an IT firm and another is Finance related job profile. Although, I am still very confused which field to choose for myself but I have a rough idea to join as a business analyst (I am starting with the skill courses for it as well). Can somebody help me regarding whether to take any of the above mentioned jobs or to still keep hunting in some specific field (in the case which field should I be aiming?).

Please schedule time with your school’s career counseling team. You’re asking a bunch of complete strangers to tell you what field to enter, we know nothing about you.

I would have... if I had such a team at school?

    First off, congratulations!
That’s really great and you are really lucky!

A few points I would consider. If you look beyond what companies / industry they are, are the roles similar ? Are they offering you similar type of work? What role gives you the biggest ability to learn and develop for the long run? Which manager shows the most promise to develop you?

I would try and write down your pro and con lists and maybe it will become really clear on paper.

A business analyst field especially in the beginning of your career is a good way to get your feet wet. You will learn a lot about the business, leadership, and negotiation. There will be opportunities to create and make presentations. I wish I had this opportunity out of college. Instead I took a more focused path and guess what - Not anywhere near what I do today. It did provide valuable lessons - but more on the side of what not to do.

Hi, it sounds like you want to get more specific about what each job is offering, the work you would be doing and if either will supports your goal of starting out as an analyst. If you accept an offer will you have time for additional courses and complete when you want? Will either firm have growth opportunities for you in the future with this experience. Many things to consider when looking for first role including alignment with values, future opportunities and support for education. Good luck!!

Unless the finance related job is through Primerica (a pyramid MLM scheme), I would definitely say go for the finance related job.

I say IT as the more stable industry.

Yes but would it help/ align with me wanting to be an analyst?
