is it ok to negotiate promotion pay? Promotions are given at the same time as merit increases and I know they try to couple them together…my manager has changed twice since I’ve been hired (in a year) and my workload has doubled if not tripled. I’m up for promotion and want to be prepared to have a conversation if the pay is not comparable to the market

Yes, like the other poster mentioned, prepare. Do your research and get some market data and see where you land financially. You may be surprised if you are given this promotion, they may also mention an increase for you. If you want to negotiate it, have the research handy, know the worth of THAT job, not you. We are paid what the job is worth, however, and this is a big IF, you are a valued employee, sometimes you can do some wiggle room in negotiating based on your level of work, and your tenure.
