    There are a lot of women working here but predominantly in associate attorney roles. Partnership is male-dominated and not diverse. Those who make partner also have stay-at-home spouses raising their children, which makes the culture of the firm very unmindful / insensitive to work-life balance. The "parental leave" is generous: 8 weeks short term disability / 8 weeks parental leave / you can add 1-5 weeks of vacation; Many women do a combination of vacation & unpaid time with their leave to take a full 6 months off. There are part-time and flex-time options but due to the 24/7 nature of the firm/culture, it's very difficult to truly work "part-time."

    The top is male-dominant and promotions are male-dominant. Women are given more administrative tasks than men and are asked to serve on non-substantive firm committees (ie- pro bono committee, happiness committee) that take valuable time away from practice development and are not compensable come bonus season. Senior women overwhelmingly tend to leave this place and the ones that stay are poor role models for the working mom.

    You have to be prepared to work very long hours and sacrifice time for family and outside activities. I have two small children and sometimes this is very difficult. This isn't an issue exclusive to MLB, but rather an issue in the legal field in general. If you aren't willing to make these sacrifices, law firm life may not be the right fit.
