"CWRU has a habit of underpaying it’s employees compared to others in the region or industry. Negotiate your pay before accepting the job. External hires have more power to influence their pay and salary grade before they are hired than current employees. There are very few opportunities for current non-faculty employees to move up and get a raise (beyond the annual cost of living increase). Set strong boundaries regarding when you’re willing to work and what you’re willing to work on. Departments and offices are typically severely understaffed due to budgetary constraints."

"Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate before accepting the job offer. Once you are in it is very diffucult to get decent raises and difficult to get a promotion."
