"Never give up & stand your ground. You can do anything that a guy can do. Worked at several different offices. Once you have worked at one location long enough, you're part of the team. Another office I worked at felt like family right away and was treated like one of guys. The one I work at now, feels like a good ol boys club & a girl is the red headed stepchild. It won't always be that way. Just takes time for the guys to not be so intimidated by a woman that can do their job even better than they can. Never give up, trust your intuition when going the the interview. Know that eventually you will be accepted."

"The culture at Comcast is very distinct. Upper management is all older white men and the cable industry in general has a reputation of being a bit of a boys club. I do have to say that efforts at Comcast are being made to diversify (including women) but it feels like more of a PR stunt than anything and it is still very hard to climb the career ladder as a woman in this company. Also - there are a LOT of politics within the company and women don't necessarily help other women (in fact, quite the opposite in some instances). Great performance is not necessarily what gets you promoted - self-promoting and upper management relationship building (aka ass kissing) are (unfortunately) more valued, regardless of your level of competence and work. There is also no regard for work-life balance and no onsite childcare. To get ahead, you're expected to move around the country but there are also often job cuts, which are often political vs. based on work performance."

"Never join a company that is in the process of a merger with a larger company. The company was originally TCI Communications sold to AT&T Broadband, then sold to Comcast. The pension account was disabled for those who worked for AT&T Broadband, so we didn't have control over that money and they didn't tell us that it wouldn't earn anymore dividends. In other words, we got screwed out of years of pension pay! Also, this company only pays women to a certain plateau, even though they will assign you management duties and responsibilities. The company doesn't value the loyal employees that helped build the company to the level it is at now. If they decide to do another merger, you could be the next one on the chopping block during their "across board reductions of staff". Then, they hire in contractors so they don't have to pay out benefits and give vacation time."
