At the time I had my children, IBM did not offer paid leave. Today IBM provides 12 weeks paid leave for mothers as well as fathers. This is just one example of how IBM continues to update its policies.

IBM does show efforts to promote women in IT. They offer special networking memberships to women only networking. They have internal groups. The CEO is a woman, but not many reporting into her were. Mostly men at that level. But there were many women in the areas of marketing and sales and operations at VP levels.

Because I was remote and I worked with a great team across the country, we were able to balance work and life. So I experienced great flexibility in that regard.

I have left. I no longer work at IBM.

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. IBM is a company that I saw promote women. I did not see any outright discrimination. However, they discriminate in AGE. They have laser focus on younger under the guise that either they want to hire the next gen workforce, or want people to work together in key locations. Meanwhile, they replace older workers who are remote by asking them to move. Then they replace with younger who are paid less. I understand needing a well balanced workforce but they most likely over cut. AND, unfortunately the growth for their business model is too conservative in that they are not up to speed on what companies need and the speed and flexibility they need it.
