"Maternity leave policy has a lot of room for improvement. Sheryl Sandberg said it best, men seem to get promoted based on potential, women get promoted once they have already proven they can do the job. This may not be company specific, but I find this is often the case at Liberty."

"There is great flexibility to work from home and work flex hours, but this can vary by department or group."
Work-Life Friendly Attributes:
Hours
Did you take Maternity leave?
"Yes"
3 Weeks Paid | 10 Weeks Unpaid
"2 Weeks 'Parental Leave', 1 week of 100% paid STD for each year you have been at the company, the remaining 5 or 7 weeks of STD (based on delivery) is at 2/3 salary. You can take FTO to fill the gaps, but in MA you can only rollover 150 hrs (4 weeks) of FTO, so it is pretty impossible to take a fully paid maternity leave unless you have been at the company for many years. Your bonus is also prorated at the end of the year for the time you took off, so you get penalized when you return from mat leave too."
Would you recommend Liberty Mutual Insurance to other women?

"Still an old boys club. The company tries but there is a lot of unconscious bias = when men ask for raises and promotions they lean heavily on emphasizing they are the "head of their families" (even when their wives make equal to or more). Women tend to get more push-back and our salaries are often thought of as supplemental - that we must have someone else (spouse, family money) supporting us. Men get promoted twice as often as women (with the exception where the woman has a parent or spouse who works/ed at the company)."

"Slow-moving, bureaucratic organization with mostly male middle and upper management. It can be difficult to break into the boys' club especially when male managers refer to each other as "buddy" or "bud." Company recently introduced parental leave of 2 weeks for both mothers and fathers; falls quite short as more companies are offering 2 months plus. 401k is 50 cents on the dollar up to 6%. New health insurance options introduced to save the company money and transfer more costs to employees. Calibration process is designed to keep wages low. Starting salaries are competitive but be prepared for wage stagnation even if you are a consistent high performer."
