I have found that hard work and good networking get you far here. I limit my in-office time to 40 hours a week and my evenings are devoted to my family, yet I have been promoted annually and am currently at the highest level of individual contributor positions. There are amble flexible work arrangements available, although upper management does not participate in them. Maternity leave is on par with other companies, and taking the full amount of leave available is encouraged. It sometimes feels like coworkers judge my schedule and the hours I put in, but my work speaks for itself and I've never felt held back as a woman.
You can succeed here. You'll need to learn constantly (we have plenty of resources to do so), take stretch assignments (that's where the real growth happens), network & build relationships (and collaborate to achieve objectives together).
Women in Technology (WiT) is a strong & growing community at Liberty Mutual. Men As Allies is in its infancy and off to a promising start.
We value agility. Be willing to change and adapt constantly - we're on a transformation journey here. These are exciting times.
There are different cultures in each region of the company. Modeling leaders in one office or area may not prepare you for interacting with senior leaders in other regions or in home office. Also, leadership is moving in a very positive direction, empowering the front-line more and more. The best leaders stand out and are worth following to help move the rest of the organization forward.
