"There are mainly women within the stores themselves, but once you start climbing the ranks past the regional level, you'll see fewer and fewer women. There is a catty, vindictive culture within management at the stores, and a complete lack of transparency. Women are frequently accused of starting "drama" or "spreading rumors" when they are simply discussing the job with their fellow people leaders. There is very much a cliquey, passive aggressive culture within the stores. Store managers will protect their friends' jobs and extraordinarily high salaries by choosing to underpay other associates and people leaders. I was a people leader for two years and was never given a review by my boss, and my seeking out feedback would go nowhere--she would tell me that I was doing great, but then tell other managers behind my back how terrible I was. I was promised a promotion twice, and both times she hired an external on the sly while I was waiting for the promotion to go through. I stepped down from management and went into Big Ticket--when I found a job at another company paying $8/hr more than what I was making at Macy's (plus a four-day work week), I put in my notice. On my last day, an hour into my shift this woman sent a brand new sales manager up to my department to confiscate all of my electronics, including the tablet that was necessary for me to do my job. This is just an example of the toxic company culture and vindictiveness from managers."
