"People at Starbucks HQ are very emotional. Good thing is that they are very empathetic and most people advocate for a good work/life balance. The Bad thing is that most decisions are based on feelings and trends, so a lot of times, technical/scientific skills are lacking and data/facts are often misinterpreted for emotional bias. HR lumps all specialized positions into 1 category, which basically defaults to the lowest pay bracket--you will find that your salary will not reflect other big industries in Seattle. Starbucks HQ employees are often poached by other industries in the area. Expert communicators and storytellers will excel here. Healthcare is also confusing and expensive for office employees, since they have to account for hourly Retail employees as well. "

"Please remain aware of how your managers treat you compared to your male counterparts. This includes looking at who they ask to do cleaning tasks, who they write up more, who they push for a supervising position, and who they let get away with more unprofessional behavior. There were a number of times when a bunch of us were standing around because the store was empty, and I was the only girl in the group, but I was the one picked out to clean the bathrooms and floors while the boys did nothing."

"Starbucks is truly a great place to work if you fit in with your store. If you feel you don't fit in at your store, ask to transfer to another instead of giving up on the company. The raises, beanstock, and freedom of expression (watch out for that dress code though- don't ever think about wearing a happy color!) are unmatched from what I've seen. "

"The company is great and has wonderful benefits. The role of a store manager job isn't hard. Being on call 24/7 is too much though. You will get phone calls and messages at 430am-1030pm and it is always your responsibility to deal with even if you have a family or other commitments"

"Women here hold key leadership roles and in fact by numbers alone there are more women than men in all management positions. There are great paid maternity leave benefits, great general benefits at all levels from hourly to executive, good compensation, lots of perks, and a world-reknown culture of diversity & inclusion, corporate social responsibility, and has been in top companies to work for many years running. "This job can be absolutely amazing or absolutely abysmal completely depending on 1 HUGE factor: Your Store Manager. Be very cautious. Starbucks has a wonderful company culture and astounding benefits. But they unfortunately fall into the trap of hiring and then rapidly promoting people who are willing to bend over backwards and suck up to everyone to get ahead. Leading to managers that have no right to be in any form of leadership position. My manager seemed amazing during my interview and training and within 7 months I was crying and starting to literally get sick just thinking about having to spend time with her on shift. My other partners were absolutely amazing and unfortunately all of us had the same awful feelings towards this store manager but the higher ups didn't want to hear it because she was so eager to please. "The benefits offered by the company are extraordinary. It can be difficult to be a working parent at one of these stores, and I have found that the schedules are not conducive to managing a household with kids. However, to be able to get health insurance, school assistance, and even food and beverage benefits at a non-executive job is pretty unusual. "

"I believe Starbucks is committed to their mission and values however translation can get lost down the chain of command. It is a business after all so it needs to profit but accountability and threat state of doing a good job is a fine line that often I feel gets crossed. "This is an expectation that must be met or else we will follow up with a performance conversation..." those types of comments often leave a pit in the stomach and make employees more terrified to speak up if they make mistakes and try to cover it up or fix it before it is made known to upper management. Making mistakes is part of the learning experience and journey and should not be made to feel worthless, especially when over 90% of mistakes are easily fixable."

"At entry level it is highly flexible, at store management level I believe it is extremely inflexible while upper management continue to put restrictions and expectations on scheduling practices that often don't leave a good work life balance. Along with constant communication while away from work you never feel like you have time off. Draining and upsetting considering such great benefits and morales that the company seems to offer. "

"Technically speaking, Starbucks doesn't offer maternity leave. However, they do offer short-term disability. You get a 66% pay during 6 weeks after birth of your child, which equals about 50% of regular pay after taxes and insurance. There are a lot of women at Starbucks, but upper level management is predominately male. As a women employee, I feel very supported and see a lot of opportunities. As a mother at Starbucks, I do not feel supported. Family doesn't seem to be at the forefront of Starbucks executive team."

"I've been with this company for over 9 years. One thing I will say is if you don't speak your mind (in an appropriate manner)about what you're feeling, your bosses will never know. If they don't know how can they improve? I've learned this this past year with my new boss. It's been working out great, because she knows I'm going to be real with her."
