Side Hustle to Self Employed

Why did you start your side hustle?

Was it because you needed the extra income, was it a hobby that you wanted to earn money for (ex: crafting, yoga, etc.), any other reasons?

I needed an identity outside work and to have something that I am the owner of.

For me it was because I didn't feel like I was authentic in what I was doing. I said that at the end of my life I'd rather regret that it didn't work that that I never tried. I am not regretting it at all but I cannot say it was smooth sailing at the beginning.

That's how I feel too - better to try (and possibly fail) than never try at all!

I have styled hair since I was in high school but I actually hate doing peoples hair. I love the medical field (but am tired of working in it) and I really wanted to use my biology degree as I love science and research. Working in oncology opened my eyes to hair care and formulating hair care products, so I started doing hair on the side to raise money to formulate my own hair care products and am now building a small business around that.

I got tired of everyone asking me to review their resumes for free, since I have background not only as a corporate hiring manager, but also as a great writer. :)

I initially started my own business to get a discount on the products I already used and loved. Now, it has become so much more.
